The TI-84 Plus guidebook is now available electronically. The clock is viewed from the MODE menu (which now uses the small font), and there is also a new timer function in BASIC.

Also GetCalc( has a new argument:

Quote:
GetCalc(variable[,portflag])
By default, the TI-84 Plus uses the USB port if it is connected. If the
USB cable is not connected, it uses the I/O port. If you want to specify
either the USB or I/O port, use the following portflag numbers:
portflag=0 use USB port if connected;
portflag=1 use USB port;
portflag=2 use I/O port

and there is also a new timer function in BASIC

Where is that? I can't find it.

Look in the catalog listing starting on page 621 for "checkTmr" and "startTmr"

About as much as the 83 Plus SE, though I can't quite remember. If you were going to buy a new one, go for the 89Ti instead. It's better than the 84 Plus SE, in my opinion. (Though I still don't like the new layout of the keypad.)

I have an 89 series, I need an 83 series. Should I maybe buy a regular 83+?

The TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus Silver Edition are expected to sell for around $110 and $130, respectively. You will need to check with retailers for specific pricing.

I'd buy the 84+

And look at this, there's a dayOfWk( function:
Quote:
Returns an integer from 1 to 7, with each integer representing a day of the week. Use dayOfWk( to determine on which day of the week a particular date would occur. The year must be 4 digits; month and day can be 1 or 2 digit.

The dayOfWk( function was there already. And I think I can get an used 83+ for half the price.

The descriptions for the 84 family of calcs say they're pretty much the same thing as the 83 family. So, if all you're going to do is program, I'd say go for an 83 Plus or something. (Cheaper, and it'll suit your purposes.) Of course, if you want to conform to the idea of having the latest and greatest, get the 84 Plus SE...

Yes, I think, and I must have gotten my calculators confused. I saw the dayOfWk( function on the 89.
