I'm at school right now so I can't send an email. However I would like to test Chasm 2.

I seem to remember some issues about Chasm and ticalc.org. IIRC, someone was complaining that they couldn;t find it on ticalc.org and that it was earlier. I certainly don;t recall deleting it, so my question is: Was it ever on ticalc.org? |

I recall seeing a news item about it. (Was that ticalc.org? Can't really remember...) But I don't think it was uploaded. Of course, I could be mistaken on that... |

When was it uploaded/deleted. The only time I ever delete anything is when an author aske me to. And that is after proving thst they are in fact the author. |

Well, I find myself doing something related to Chasm. It's a program that will let BASIC programers use up to 128 bytes of opcode. It is going to be complete with an organized database of all the opcodes, the child of my insane amounts of free time . I'll hurry up with the database part, then send you an asm program with the data. |

I'm not so good at explaining, but here it goes...
Every line is translated by your assembler to bits. For example, you can use :
.db $78
instead of:
LD A,B
To execute a few lines of ASM, the processer takes those bits and execute the bits, not the actuall LD A,B that you wrote. |

Also, some instructions (like ldir, or bit 5, (iy+12)) take up more than one byte. |

So what's the point of having a prog that lets you use opcode? Can't you just use an asm prog? |

Methinks this is an attempt at a BASIC assembler. Probably coupled with a few ASM utilities, no doubt?
----------------------------------
And, before you write an assembler, maybe you should write a disassembler first? That's what I'm doing, and still haven't made anything as reliable as Calcsys...
(the version of Calcsys I have has a bug in the disassembler, where the diassembler increments an address too far when reading some "PUSH IX/IY" or "POP IX/IY". But it's still my best friend! )

It might be useful for disassembly purposes, or "tweaking" a BASIC prog. The opcode is very fast and very very fexible--even more so than regular ASM. I think its a bit problematic for programming purposes since you're bound to make a mistake and wipe everything out eventually. Espcially with longer "chain" instructions like "$DD $CB $XX $46+8*b" ("Check bit b at address IX+$XX"). |

This is one of the reasons why it's GOOD to carry an ISS and a table of all possible instructions given some bytes. I do, and I'm seeing the patterns in the data...
(a group of two bits, and two groups of three bits... ) |

Ha! I told you he didn't actually do this. If he spent all that time on it, he wouldn't have deleted it so fast. |
