ok, My friends calculator is an 83+ SE and has new batteries and backup, he bought it this past year and has 1.15. he turns on the calc and in about 2 seconds- 2 minutes it shuts off, when you turn it on, the ram has been cleared and sometimes it goes to a completely black screen instead!

like i said, all of the batteries are new, he has tried leaving all 5 out for 15 minutes and still nothing, is this a virus or is his calc dying?

well, according to my experience:
mirage: crashes a lot
you rpg: basic? or asm?
galaxia: if this is the one for mirage, then good game
DOOM: never heard of it

mirage probably did some thing to it.... ill bet.....

wait... maybe somethings messing with the apd powerdown time...

Well, leaving the batteries out doesn't actually do anyting. If you take the batteries out and hold down the ON button for a minute or two, it should fix that. If that doesn't work, take out the backup one and all the normal ones and hold down ON. People go up to me with problems like that all the time, and that's always what I do.

Yeah, that's it mode, alpha, S. Sure. But I'm certain that something like battery mode does it to, but I don't want to check, for obvious reasons.
