20000 quotes approved; 143 quotes pending
At last, the eminent internet quotes database has reached a whopping twenty thousand posts. The project began around 2000, when several IRC users began to compile a site of funny or candid quotes from popular internet chat media such as IRC, AIM, and even real-life conversations. It began as an unmoderated compilation named QDB, but soon was forced to implement a system to weed through the quotes submitted to select only the best. In 2002, the project split, gaining the official title of bash.org, and has experienced quite a tumultuous history since. The moderators and moderation system has been alternately criticized as arbitrary and random, yet it remains one of the most popular repositories of quotes on the internet. Here's to seven more years of laughs!
