The spambots seem to be a bit more persistent this week than usual.

If you see any strange goings-on, be sure to hit "report as spam." I can usually get to them within 24 hours.

Tempted to see how many bots reply to this thread... Razz

You never know... Some are that BOLD

sidenote: You call them spambots? Hilarious XD

Edit: it seems like were not the only ones. WikiTI has recently had some trouble with spambots

Oi, since the beginning of the month, actually. I have deleted probably close to 200 posts in a 14 day period :/ I have flagged maybe 50 or so spam accounts, too XD I can literally log out at night, wake up the next morning and get back on and have 20 spam posts to delete.

EDIT: I actually opened this page expecting spam posts to delete, so i was relieved. I have 11 other tabs open that I have to check, now.

Whew! That's relief. Well...not the WikiTI part. :P

My schedule will be cleared up a little bit more from now to Christmas, so I should be able to catch a few more than last month.

I haven't noticed many in the past day or two, so either somebody else has been sniping the posts or they haven't been posting...

Yeah, I just caught 2 more today. Most of the spambots I came across had their number of "interests" tags set really high. Like 13,000+. And others have blatantly obvious usernames like "FREE VIAGRA," etc. Maybe in the future we could put those on mod preview.

Yeah, their interests seems to be the same as their yahoo and skype account... 143040. I mean, I love numbers-- a lot-- but really? Razz

At least it's not as bad as on www.ticalcs.net or the Boxing Day 2005 wave of spambots on OCRemix (about 6000 spam posts in one single day) but it's still quite bad. If there is still an admin around, he should maybe check for anti-spam mods like stop forum spam, because on Omni this blocks most bots. Cemetech mod is also quite nice, but it's for PhpBB. Else, if that's not possible, my suggestion is to try doing what I did on TI-Freakware and Omni in 2007 as anti-spam: When someone registers, he can only see and post in one single section of the board (in an intro thread, for example) until he reaches 2 post.

I certainly hope that if all admins that can ban people decide to go completely inactive, that the site won't get spammed as bad as ticalcs.net to the point it's no longer useable, otherwise I think it might be best to just disable registrations completely until a someone can help on the admin side of things. I would hate to see this site go down due to some adult ads or if it became impossible to find old useful threads.
