There's this example in the textbook:
y=-x^2/72 +x
I don't know how they found out the parametric equation to be:
x=24*sqr(2)t
y=-16t^2+24sqr(2)t.
Please can someone show me how they got 24*sqr(2)t for x. I don't know where in the blue sky they got that number from. I really am not understand the whole parametric equation thing. Please help me understand parametric equations and how to come up with them when I have an equation in terms of x and y. Parametric equations are a nightmare to me. What's even worse is that I have no idea how to do it in 3D function. That's even more scary not to be able to do it when you are given a curve triple integration and I have to parametrize it.
