I bought a TI-92 used over ebay, and received it today. I'm having problems though, the display is absolutely atrocious, I have problems reading from it. I have set the contrast to its optimum position, and I need to be directly under a light source or in a very well lighted room to make out the characters.

I have the feeling I've been scammed, or are the displays really this bad? I must admit I am very sensitive to this stuff, as I get major eye strain with anything unclear, but no other LCD device I have is like this, most are fairly clear.

Thanks for the help.

Maybe you need to replace the batteries?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that, I put in the new batteries (it came with none), and then later tested them (in the hope they would be worn batteries) but they all checked out ok.

He said he adjusted the contrast already. It is diomond + with the 68k calcs.

Read through the manuel and see what you can do. If nothing works, claim it junk and contact ebay. There are requirements theiry sellers agree too.

I scoured ebay looking for pics of other TI-92's, and came up with these links :

Mine looks similar to the below in decent light. And worse if im in a fairly dark place (I'm gathering theirs would too?).

This was the best display for a TI-92 I found (A TI-92+).

And heres the type you only see on the front of guidebooks and on the texas website.

Thanks Smile

They all look fine to me, but they probably don't have their contrast/brightness maxed?

When I had a 92, it was very touchy with the display. I had to set it to a certain contrast and view from a specific angle if I wanted it to looked its best. Perhaps if you play around with it looking at it from different angles and stuff, you might find a good spot to look at it from. If not, sorry man. It is a 92, and those have been around since 1995...

Do the TI-89's have better displays? I might resell it on ebay and go for one of those.

Cheers.
