True or fake ?

We have been made aware of an unauthorized posting of the updated OS for the TI-84+family on a website that is not affiliated with education.ti.com.

As tempting as it may be to download the OS, please refrain from downloading the OS from any website that is not housed under education.ti.com.

We expect that the OS will be available in the Downloads section of education.ti.com on February 15.

Morning, sunshine. It's already been released officially, version 2.53

It's got some incompatibilities right now so I'm not yet prepared to try it. but is has some nice features.

what if it's a sneaky trap by TI, so that after you install it, you can't install custom OSes anymore.... that's actually probably ridiculous and impossible, but it's just a thought.

I doubt it. I thought about that too, so I reverted to the 2.43. If you can downgrade with the same certificate that the custom OS uses, I can't see why you can't add a new custom OS.

Don't worry; I'm pretty sure there's no way they could break existing calculators that way, even if they wanted to.

yea, its real. But don't download it unless you have a copy of 2.43 on hand. I upgraded, and the new features are great, but it doesn't work w/ omnicalc. After crashing, it locked up and has been locked up for 2 weeks now. I've tried everything, nothing works.
So, yes, you should upgrade, just be careful.

Even after re-inserting the batteries? Try this:
Remove one or more of the AAA batteries. Hold down DEL as you re-insert it. You will see a screen saying "install OS now". Press ON, and then any key at the error message. Press on to turn the calc back on. If this doesn't work, then try re-sending the OS as detailed above, but actually install it at the "install OS now" screen. If this doesn't work, than I feel really bad for you.
(Sorry for the off-topic post, mods)

I'm not sure about off-topicness, but what exactly are these instructions for and why are they necessary?

Actually, the first set of directions was intended to hopefully unfreeze the calc (those directions I have had to only follow once myself, and I never want to have to do it again) The second set is just to (re)install an OS.
