What do you guys recommend for:

1. Audio Converter-Convert form M4A to WAV and other useful conversions
2. Video Editor-for rearranging vidoes and editing them
3. Video to Audio-just take the audio from a video

I just want to know what you all use or think is the best.
Thanks!

For all the audio stuff I use the Goldwave trial. It does expire after a few hundred or a thousand edit operations though.

I use a program called prism. You can also download audio converters with it.

Search "prism video coverter" on google. I think it is "nchsoftware.com/prism"

1. I generally use DirectShow Filter Graph Editor (part of the Windows SDK). It's probably overkill for your needs, though. Wink
2. If you're just doing basic stuff, Windows Movie Maker is probably sufficient - but Sony Vegas has a 30 day trial and is very cheap (£25 or so).
3. See 1.

For file converting, I always use SUPER. It can convert just about anything you want in video and audio.

MediaCoder is a good all around converter for video and audio though, I find Handbrake, the svn version, to be the best for DVD ripping, not that you asked for dvd ripping software.

  1. VLC media player is actually a very reliable converter (not to mention the best video player out there), and it supports all the formats it says it does. I suspect it suffers from occasional bitrate confusion, but for the most part it's worked fine for me. Try it out! Media-Convert.net is also pretty reliable, but it's usually busy, and tags an advertisement on the end of each video it does.
  2. Not much experience in video editing. VirtualDub is pretty good at splicing and filtering such, but I don't remember it having much else.
  3. VLC again. Works like a charm.
