Hi Benchmade42, and welcome to UTI!

Those are supposed to not be clear/usable. They're options that, at that time, you can't select. On computers, options in menus that aren't selectable are usually gray, but since the TI-89s can only do black-and-white they settled on checker-boarding the names by turning some pixels off. On the F1 Tools menu, the first item is "Open..." and #3 is "New..." (you can sort-of make them out), which are used when you're in an editor (such as the text editor or program editor). If you go into the Y= editor, you'll see that New, Cut and Copy are blurred, meaning that you can't use them at that time.

Hope this helps Smile

Hi simplethinker!

Thank u very much for fast reply, I didn't know that unused options are usually blurred. It looks quite strange like there is sth wrong with screen or software but... Works exactly like u wrote so... No more questions ;)

Thanks a lot !

Glad I could help Smile I'm surprised that the manual doesn't mention anything about this though, since some of the things are hard to decipher.
