Hello,

As some of you know I tried to upgrade the forum to a newer version of IPB last night. My multiple attempts failed miserably and left me restoring all website files and the database from backups I had taken just moments before trying to upgrade IPB.

As a result I have setup a test subdomain (test.unitedti.org) and will be trying to get the updates working there and if that goes well, then I'll apply the upgrades to the main website. Rather than spend more time with the main site down while trying to troubleshoot why the upgrade isn't working quite right. With luck we'll be up to date with the latest version of IPB before the weekend is over.

And the upgrade is now in place (2.3.6) without a theme yet...

To-do list:

  • Finish styling, especially for posting, pop-ups, and profiles
  • Get another downloads system in place
  • Poke around admin options for trash can, quote limits, etc.
  • [s]Fix all now-broken [goose] and [codebox] tags (via search/replace?)[/s] Check.
  • Add some useful math symbols, etc. to the smiley selector
  • See about uploading new personal photos (seems broken), or recovering the old ones

As far as downloads systems go, this one seems decent.

I'm going to try rebuilding post content, which should fix custom BB Code issues. Supposedly it takes a while, though.

Edit: it did fix the problem.

Ok What I'm looking for here is a list of features that were on the old version of the forum that we want added back to this version.

So far we have the following as definite things to bring back:

  • Downloads
  • Sub-domain Links

What other modifications am I missing that we want back?

Well, I missed the whole transition stage but it looks very nice now.

Wasn't there some sort of home page at one point, that had a list of recent Announcements, online members, a mini-calendar, and other random crap? I never really used it, but someone may miss it.

It also appears (see bananaman's post) that attachments to posts aren't working. I just tested it and I also get the error "Upload failed. Please ask the administrator to ensure the uploads directory is writeable".

I assume that's the same problem as when I tried uploading a personal photo earlier.

Nope, different problem. I'm glad that's working, though. Smile

Missed the recursive flag earlier, so attachments and photos, etc. all should be working now.

Uploading PDF files (zipped or otherwise) still seems problematic.

On another note, I got a PM asking about the downloads system, to which my reply simply stated that it wasn't compatible with the current IPB version. I also let him know that no files have been lost, and that I can retrieve individual programs for him if he asks.

Lastly, I've been doing a little dabbling at the beta forum still located at the zalpha subdomain. Nothing major of note yet, but I'm headed towards figuring out how to make an additional drop-down menu for special characters in the post editor:

► ◄ ∫ × √ ¹ ² ³ ° ≤ ≠ ≥ → ↑ ↓ θ α β γ Δ δ ε γ μ π ρ Σ σ τ φ Ω χ
This has been long-awaited, certainly.

Anyway, just trying to get things going again, before the excitement should die down.

I don't know if this is part of the on-going upgrade or an update that went through tonight, but all the threads are stuck in some kind of...."tree view" mode. It started today.

Go to the upper right of any thread, click on "Options", and select "Switch to: Standard" under "Display Modes". This can get enabled by visiting a link to the forums with "&mode=threaded" attached to the end of the URL.

I couldn't get the options link to do anything, but it looks like clearing cookies fixed it.

I added a "Special Symbols" box into the post/PM editor. To edit this:

  1. Go to the Admin CP and log in
  2. Select the LOOK & FEEL tab
  3. Click the rightmost icon across from BlueGlass 3.0
  4. Choose Edit Template HTML
  5. Find Template Bit: ips_editor (skin_editors)
  6. Search for the word "symbol"
  7. Modify it as you see fit
[EDIT]

I transferred the CSS code over to the stylesheet, which can be found in the same menu that appears under bullet #3.

I think we really need to try for another program archive. I've linked to a possibility earlier in this thread, here is what appears to be an updated version of the same. Can't really install it myself, though, AlienCC would probably have to do that, but once that's done I can get to taking care of the already-uploaded files.
