Well, I was wondering if anyone had some good ideas of portable apps to put on it. I was hoping for some apps that wont leave any temp files on the host computer. Any suggestions or sites would be appricatied, Thanks!.

I would just put programs and files that you use and find useful on it.

This is a great resource for portable apps:

AlienCC's got it on the nose.

That site's got a lot of good open-source stuff, like Firefox, GIMP, Audacity, among others. None of them leave temp files on the host computer.

They also seem to get around blockers on the host computer, as my teacher says that we aren't supposed to be able to run executables from a flash drive but I can.

IMHO, Firefox's advantage over IE and Opera is that it's got a modular framework for addons and such--which is completely useless if you have no addons. The computers at my school have only the basic Firefox, which is OK, but you can install addons to that portable Firefox that stay with you forever Smile.

Certain apps also have a portable mode, as well--check the documentation or look through the options for it.

IE is very much extensible, with a range of useful addons like developer tools, ad blockers or mouse gestures. Smile

/me looks at Galandros pen drive...
- A synchronization program. (Tucan or always sync and go)
- Firefox portable
- Pidgin portable for msn, aim and all that.
- Screen shooting
- a temp files and registry cleaner (even without some administrator rights) I find it useful to speed up pcs of friends
- 7-zip portable --> very nice to see also .rar and .tar files
- If you like multimedia: VLC Media Player
- A antivirus. (clamWin) I haven't tested well that. I may see in a public pc I know has virus...
- OpenOffice =D
- z80asmide. yes it can be portable (but not the definitions, windows)
- a kind of notepad

Here some nice sites for that:
http://portableapps.com/apps/
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-...le-programs.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_portable_software
http://www.lupopensuite.com/
http://www.winpenpack.com/main/download.php (italian, I can read something of italian, after all is derived from latin Razz )

oh and I have more but aren't as good as those. Is this enough?

On a related note, am I the only person who really dislikes calling these apps "portable"? Software portability is a well-established topic and is completely unrelated to "being able to run software off a flash drive". :\

http://www.portablefreeware.com/ lists nifty software to put on a USB drive.

Seeing that you don't want to leave traces of you behind on computers you use, may I also recommend IE Privacy Keeper?

Personally, in addition to Firefox and Foxit Portable (for reading PDF files), I also have Notepad++ on my USB drive.

I have Firefox, Chrome, Foxit (I think), Notepad++ as well.

I also have Process Explorer and Resouce Hacker, and an AutoHotkey compiler, too.
They're pretty handy.
