Recently I downloaded and saved my old access_log file and replaced it with a blank one so newer logs would be easier to read, but now it seems that it's not logging anything anymore. How do I fix this?

Edit: BTW this is the UTI hosted subdomain that I'm talking about. Just wanted to make that clear.

By default when you delete the log file while the webserver is running, it loses it's lock on that file and won't write to it again until the webserver is restarted. That is why I discourage deleting the log file, not to mention it doesn't count against your filesystem quota.

it *would* be nice to have a utility that would let us tail the end of our log files. at one point my php errors files was over a GB.

Out of curiosity how often is the webserver restarted?

Yes, I agree with this. These files left alone will become ridiculously huge.

Only as often as is needed, which is fairly rare.
