Hi everybody,

i was using the " Solve( " function in TI-89 a (home) and i inserted the function (* THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I TYPED IN *) :::::

solve(20=X(2),X)

i mean.. it should be 10 right?
but like it came up with the " memory error"

* I DID RESET MEMORY AND TRIED REINSTALLING OS <--lol
but none worked...

PLEASE TRY ON YOUR OWN CALCULATORS AND PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

AGAIN PLEASE POST YOUR OWN RESULTS AFTER TRYING THE SAME EXACT EQUATION!!!

The problem is that when you write x(2), the calculator assumes that x is a function of one variable, which has a value of 2. This confuses the calculator, because it thinks you're trying to solve for the function, so it does weird stuff (I'm not sure what exactly) and ends up with a memory error.

What you want to type instead is solve(20=2x,x). In this case, 2x will be interpreted as the multiplication it is, and you'll get the correct solution.

As an aside, you may have chosen one of the most unfortunate abbreviations for "TI-89 Titanium".

This has got to be dork nirvana. I make an offhand remark and weeks later people are still cracking up about it.

That being said, it's usually preferable for posts to have more content than "a", and if possible more relevance to the topic under discussion.
