I'm working on a program called Captioneer that will run on either of the TI Silver Edition, or the TI-84+ calculators, but not the normal 83+, because it doesn't have a real-time clock. Anyway, it's supposed to be a program that lets you display synchronized lyrics to music -- like how closed-captions on your TV. I got the idea from Crimsonsoft's MiniLyrics plug-in for various Windows-platform media players. In fact, when I'm done, it'll even have a converter program to change lyrics back and forth from Captioneer and MiniLyrics formats. The program is about a third complete, and will probably be finished, hopefully, before the end of the month.

Many thanks to BrandonW, Tari, i-c_Y, calc84maniac, WikiTI, and Sigma for helping me out along the way.

So how much work do you have left on this, and how do you plan to make sure that the lyrics will line up with the song, as in start at the same time?

I imagine he would embed timestamps into the lyrics, and when the time elapses, the lyrics get displayed, which would be the purpose of using accurate crystal timers.

Also, because at an average size of 1K/song, the number of songs that would fit on a TI-84+ calculator by itself, assuming you want to use the calculator for anything else, is insignificant for the person who would go to such lengths to have song lyrics available at all times.

I believe he is just displaying the lyrics while the song is playing on something else. you just have to make sure you hit play and start on the calc at the same time.

I'm sure he is - this is why I said 1K and not 3M.

It doesn't really matter how useful this is or isn't, it's his first assembly program and I'm quite impressed he came up with it so quickly.

I'm now about half-way finished with it. I still have to make the converter, make Captioneer figure out which appvars belong to the program belong to it, and read them. After that, a few finishing touches, and it will be complete.

Oh, yeah, BTW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsU5_P8hWpI
