I was just curious, I could not log into IRC via my applet (http://tifreakware.net/irc) or the one here on UTI. Is there a problem with the servers today? Oh, and it is 2:16 local time when this happened...

You're not alone. (Use sumorez.dragon-fire.org for now.)

Is it me or has the uti server experienced lot of server downtimes recently? I think aliencc should look at this carefully in case a crash would happen in a month or two, because it happened when he was not online so far

Also does anyone know how to make PJIRC try a different server after 30 seconds when it fails to connect to the first one?

It was scheduled maintenance, the person doing the maintenance didn't restart the irc daemon after the server booted up, so everything but IRC was up for a few hours until I was able to start it.
