so i was running MtsQuest ( also had mirage on my calc.)
well i beat MTSQuest (self running APP) and after i turned it off for a few mins. my math teacher told us to graph Y= abs(x+1) -4 or so, so i turn my calc. on and hit the Y= button.
All of a sudden, my calc has three black line one on the right about a cm. off, and two on the left 1cm. apart, then some matrix #s come across my screen, the calc. wouldn't turn off, i had to take batteries out. it worked again, matrix never happend since.
my OS broke, the garbage collect won't work... ( stupit MirageOS) |

i have had similar probs, but not the long term effects.
an asm prgm messed up Y1 and it was like 17283 bytes. i hit Y= and my calc crashed with the same simptoms, and i had to pull the batteries. my calc was fine though afterwards... |

YEA! well... thats bad for you... i mean... well, a long time ago i had said that viruses would get loose on TI83+s. You should be able to easily reinstall your OS to fix it anyway. |

I have a question about that: does it do something to things you have stored on your calc(appvars, programs, lists, groups, apps, etc.) when you do that? |

I believe it resets your entire calculator. I don't quite remember, but i used to be able to get to an LCD pixel test through the Self-test. |

yes, everything is reset:
it turns 0000h to 1, then 0
then 0001h....
up until FFFFh (skips anything needed by the OS though)
then quits
correct me if im wrong, someone |

More likely it starts at 8000h.
The sequence of the self test is
1. Memory check (press ON to abort)
2. LCD check (press any key multiple times to proceed)
3. Key check (press the key corresponding to the TI-BASIC getKey value to proceed)
4. RAM Cleared message is displayed.
I just tested it now, and everything was in the large font and cut off by the screen (its supposed to be small). Amusing. |

This sounds more like a bug then a virus to me, I'm sure it will either be patched eventually, or forgotten about over time.

Ok for the most part when your Statistics and graphing variables are completely messed up it generally is a result of a ROM call being used improperly or an asm program/App writing into the wrong parts of memory. To avoid any data loss you generally can go in and archive all your programs that you want to keep (Not touching the messed up var) and then simply delete one of the messed up stats vars. This is will cause a RAM Reset. If problems persist then do a manual reset through the appropriate menu's. Usually the problem dissappears afterwards. I have only had one rare occasion where my calc crashed about 6 times in a row. |

yeah, archive everything, then:
get calcsys
run it
[6]
[1]
[2]
[3]
[alpha]
[v]
[<-] //times 4
[enter]
[0]
[0]
[->]
[enter]
[8]
[1]
[2nd]
[quit]
[Y=]
[down] //times 9
or:
run calcsys
goto more
goto VAT
goto symbol vat
find Y0
select it
hit [alpha] then [v]
hit left 4 times
hit enter then [0] [0]
hit right once, then enter followed by [8] [1]
quit
attempt to veiw Y0
what this does is tells the calc that the variable data starts near the beginning of ram. when you view it, it will attempt to dipslay what is at the beginning of ram
and your calc will go crazy, trying to display all of the ram
when you want it to stop, pull out a battery |
