My scanner/printer is not working. it is an Epson cx6400 and when I choose to scan something the scan looks like this:
OKAY SCANNING OKAY SCANNING
STARTS FADING STARTS FADING
BLANK BLANK BLANK BLANK
STARTS UNFADING STARTS UNFADING
OKAY SCANNING OKAY SCANNING
STARTS FADING STARTS FADING
BLANK BLANK BLANK BLANK
STARTS UNFADING STARTS UNFADING
OKAY SCANNING OKAY SCANNING
STARTS FADING STARTS FADING
BLANK BLANK BLANK BLANK
STARTS UNFADING STARTS UNFADING

It was working just fine a few days ago.

BTW it prints very lightly, but all the way through on best, but takes forever.

I tried cleaning the heads, realligning them, anything else?

Are you scanning or copying? You said scanning, but it sounds like copying/printing.

You have, of course, tried replacing the ink cartridges, right?

Yes I have replaced the ink. What I am doing is scanning and printing (I put the paper on the scanning part and press copy. It prints a copy then.)

If you scan, does it have the same problem?

It's not hooked up to a computer, so when the only real thing we use it for is copying.

You should try to hook it up to one. The software that comes with it usually has some troubleshooting utilities.

It was at one point, but due to a leaky freezer on the floor above, we moved the computer upstairs, but left the copier downstairs. I really don't want to move it up the flight of stairs.

Bringing the topic out of the graveyard...

It turns out it was a hardware problem. Can't fix it, need a new one. But, we get it at a discount, and Free Shipping!

Kind of bittersweet, no?
