You're just not seeing the 3Dish glossy effect of that, are you? Smile I'll see what I can do.

Edit:

Don't you think that someone who joined less than 3 months ago will have less of an understanding of the site than people who joined a year or two years ago?

Also, borrowing graphical design ideas from MySpace (THE ugliest site on the internet) is like taking fashion ideas from clowns.

And Kerm, quit watermarking your stuff. No one is going to steal it.

I don't think that really counts as a watermark so much as a signature. You can barely see it, anyway.

Why would you think it's necessary though?

Why would any artist sign his or her work? As a mark that he or she put a substantial time investment into something and is interested in the pride of having created something aesthetically attractive.

Good point. threefingeredguy and Kerm.

Kerm, I am seeing the 3D glossy effect. I just meant that all of a sudden, it's white.

Oh, and Kerm, if you have GIMP, can't you add your own watermark under the top layer?

could you take that white layer thing off the calc itself? I like the two toned on the background, but it looks awkward on the calculator.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the 3D gloss effect?

If you think an image stands or falls by a single 3d glossy effect, then I think you aren't seeing your own image in a just, fair, and complete enough way to fully use it's aestethic possibilities.

On the subject of watermarks, I have no objection to them whatsoever. But I think all pride should come with a hint of dignitity, yet I see no watermark of those who have influenced you in any way for you to turn up with said aestethic piece of art.

But maybe I'm thinking too open source.

I think adding something from cemetech in the perfectly find and need-not improve upon UTI banner is silly. It's fine the way it is. Kerm's logo looks too much... like... boring to be honest, boring, and like a template. DigiTan was right, I can see it being used for anything. And ontop of that, It's not even well composed, the eye does not move smoothly over it, the one we have now is appealing [ in blue, purple, or orange might I add ]

I think that, just like in the old banner, there should be screenshots of newer games that are great in the background *looks at Nitacku's bowling and Fallen_Ghost's Starcalc

What, no DQ2? ;)

There should be, but it should be a forum-wide (5+ people) project, not just 1 person. Hence "United".

Well, as far as I know, Contra was 1-2 person project... (or most of it)

Or to remain more United, why not a mix/alternance of all the big-and-worldly-recognized released and finished projects? (no offense to Contra's greatness)

I agree with CDI. Maybe the current banner is not the best possibly, but at least it represents us the way we are and it's not some made-for-everyone banner (no offense for Kerm's work). What do you guys like most?

That's just the problem; there's no UTI-specific meme like the Cemetech lightning bolt or the calcgames red-button-thing. Hence the difficulty in making a unique, distinctive logo.

Good point, although a 84+SE with the current 'UTI' pic thing on it would be cool Smile.

Maybe I'm letting this out too soon, but as has been previously mentioned the current banner is updated on the beta site (which will be released eventually), as you can see here.

I like how the calculator isn't a picture of a calculator in Kerm's banner. It's more like a drawing of one. (on the older banners. NOT the ones on this page) It makes it more modern. But i like the UTI graphed on the screen of the calc on our current banner. Why don't u graph it on there?

@AlienCC: The only difference i see is; the picture is lighter, the edge is gray not black, and there is a slight gloss aroud the edge.

The graph is cleaned up a bit as well, I know minor details. Sometimes the subtle improvements make all the difference in the world.
