Now, I'm afraid I don't yet have pictures, but bear with me, this is coming out pretty well so far. The Ultimate Calculator is an uber-modded TI-83+ Black Edition, with the following stuff:
As far as what I'm making, I'm trying to cook up the most advanced and attractive and far-out calculator possible. Current plans:
» CSA Mod: 100%
» PS/2 Port: 100%
» Cutout Windows: 100%
» Painted case, maroon with silver stripes: 10%
» Possible backlight for windows? 0%
and what is a CSA port and where are the windows cut out?
perhaps you should order one of Digi's DBS systems to go with it |

The thing about calculator modifications is that they become somewhat pointless if you don't make it relatively easy for someone else to duplicate your work, assuming that they can work with hardware. I still voted "Cool Idea, Can't Wait".

I completely disagree with you on that. Why do people casemod computers? So they have something unique that they made, that no one else in the world has. Most of my mods (except for the CSA full-spectrum, calc-controlled color backlight) are quite simple, and only require some electrical, mechanical, and artistic know-how to carry out. |

Heh heh. Plastic surgery.
How did you cut out those patterns in the case? My plasticsmithing looks like it was done by accident. |

I traced it out with the tip of a compass, then used a pair of scissors to etch it through. I just started the painting of it. |
Unfortunately, it appears that I sliced through two of the sixteen motherboard <--> display cable leads in the process, so I'm now trying to figure out how I will reattach them. Preliminary thoughts are running strongly towards exposing a section in the middle and patching it with two small pieces of foil.

I managed to reconnect the LCD cable; for the first lead, I used a full 24-awg wire, soldered carefully to the two pads. When I did the second one, however, one of the pads ripped off, so I had to sand off a tiny piece of the trace on the LCD PCB and solder a single strand of wire over to the associated pad on the motherboard.
|

Heh, I'm leaving it there to remind myself I'm behind schedule.
Pictures with the sexy stripes in place coming in about an hour. |

How about a speed mod?
Did you sand the case before painting? I can't see any of the key labels on the front. |
