Over the past few months I have noticed somewhat of a slump in activity in the forums. By this I mean:
* Less overall posts per day
* Less members visiting at any given time of the day
* Not the typical fall boost in numbers we've seen every year up until this year.
* Spring was busier than fall, which is very abnormal.
http://nosolution.net/stats/awstats.unitedti.org.html

What I am looking for in this thread is a brainstorm of ideas. Ideas of how to increase involvement with current members, how to keep attracting new members, and not scare away existing members.

In the past we started holding contests mainly to help this very thing, the next one will be held after the new website is rolled out, which will be after the server is upgraded, and the download section functional.

Some ideas I have to help increase activity would require perhaps more involvement from us:
* Keeping an eye on community events on other sites, and reporting them here.
* Keeping an eye on the more interesting projects that get started here, and perhaps featuring more of them.
* Finishing some of the more highly anticipated featured projects (if any of us Staff are actually involved in them). *Cough* Sonic? *Cough*

Those are my ideas, lets see what everyone else comes up with.

I would appreciate a post from all Staff members in this thread.

If you don't have any new ideas, that's ok too just comment on which ideas other people listed that you like. Remember this is a brainstorm so we need ideas, and feedback on the ideas.

Aside from the programming contests, I could encourage Super Speler to post a new topic every now and then in TI-Basic concerning a specific problem and what would be the best approach to solving it using that language. I am working on a couple projects myself that might influence people to use the language with more ingenuity, and hopefully that will inspire them to put more effort into creatively coming up with extra uses for the language, which may prompt more sharing of ideas.

College applications are taking up the bulk of my time right now, but I try to contribute on a smaller scale to multiple projects.

I think we actually have plenty of things in the pipeline, from what I can see: calc.org archives, new server (?), TIBD wiki integration, future contest... Once those start coming into play, hopefully activity will pick up.

Since the new website is coming out relatively soon, perhaps integrating the wiki/archives will make UTI into more than just a helpful forum with a few scattered projects.

Weregoose: I've often been thinking about some way to do the same thing, and a while back talked to someone (DarkerLine? or was it you?) about something like it. Although I probably can't manage something full-time, I could contribute to a Problem of the Week or whatever it would be.

EDIT: @AlienCC After reading this, your recent posts make a little more sense. Very Happy

I am dissapointed that after 8 days we only have 3 of us that care enough to even post in this thread.

That is very alarming to me.

Between school and everything else I can't find much time to even come to the forums any more. after I get my z80 compiler finished hopefully i'll put it to good use and get more active in asm development.

Pretty sure I missed it the first day it was around.

In any case, it's all I can do until January to keep working on what I'm already doing. Once college apps are over, maybe I can do something cool.

I didn't post in this thread because I didn't want to rub it in that we have problems.

I guess I could try out those fake new articles again. And get more progress on Sonic.

It's not just us: it's the whole TI community. The other forums seemed to have slowed down a lot too.

Oh, that's right. I've been bouncing between here and Maxcoderz and looks like they're in the same pickle. Personally for me, it always takes a week or two to get settled in at the start/end of a semester. 'Haven't gone near TASM since finals.

The forum seems pretty active these days. How are we doing statistically?

Statistically we are doing ok at the moment, but we need to keep moving forward by doing things that make people want to come to the site, not drive them away from it. I realize this means I actually need to work on the beta site again, but there are other things that help bring traffic in, such as announcements every couple of weeks to the main page, etc.

Some stats to compare against:
2007, 2006, 2005.

Looks like we're shaping up for a nice spike this month. No school to compete with. Cool
