I have an idea for a game based on WarioWare, with an Aikido theme. It will not necessarily be a calculator game, as I will probably make it in Java first. Aikido is a Japanese martial art that I am studying. Reading the article What WarioWare can teach us about Game Design gave me the idea to make an Aikido WarioWare game. The article says that WarioWare is interesting in that it breaks down games into their smallest elements of gameplay. So I thought it would be funny to have an WarioWare game where the elements are Aikido elements. Turn! Shift! Sink! In WarioWare, you start out with microgames of a single gameplay element, and then the later games involve combinations of those elements.

So I thought of calling the game AikiWare. Ai means harmony, ki means life force, and then I found that one meaning of ware in Japanese is "broken piece." This is perfect because WarioWare consists of broken pieces of games.

Okay, so what's the status on WarioWare/AkidoWare? Any possibility of seeing these in '06?

I haven't been working on AikiWare; I mostly posted to get feedback on the idea. However, I have been thinking about a different Aikido game that I suppose could be merged with AikiWare. Once I learn ActionScript (hopefully starting this week) I will try to make it in Flash. It probably won't be possible on the calculator (uses the mouse), but we'll see.

Anyway, thanks for your interest. Since no one replied originally I didn't bother to investigate the idea further, but I might think about it more now.
