Up to 60%, but this is a fairly low-end algorhytm and it's very content-dependent.
The boys at DS tell me something with stronger pattern recognition like PUCrunch or even LZSS might be better-suited for prog compression, but then you hit the size problems CoBB mentioned. The (de)compressor can get so large it's tough to break even. CrunchyOS may be the exception--I don't have the calc for it so I can't say one way or the other.
It may just be more effective to follow the PUCrunch lead and use (de)compressors that are made for a specific data type. If a (de)comp were built into TI-OS it would solve all these problems (except maybe speed).
How long does a TI-92 take to decomp a very large prog? A couple seconds? |
