Thought this was kind of odd. I don't want to try it until I can back up my calc and get new batteries.

Has anyone ever heard of this before? I'm not sure if it's real or if the pics are fake. If it really is real, this would be awesome. Smile

-it goes away if you re install your OS
-it could f*** up your calc
-you can't do some stuff anymore, like sending groups

It doesn't do anything except fool TIOS into thinking the temp sector is valid for data. Which means some pretty nasty data loss whenever you garbage collect.

What's in the sector? that makes it not valid for data?

You can only reset bits in flash, and the only way to set bits is to erase an entire sector (64KB == 4 16KB pages) to $FF. Then how would you expect to GC without losing any data if you didn't have a spare 64KB set aside?

Is there any replacement for GCing? If not, this would kind of be a "time bomb" - you can use your calc until you need to GC.

Thanks guys, now I know not to screw up my calc.

Garbage Collecting? No, it just asks you to do it whenever, especially on the regular 83+s. You could always say now, though.

but then you can't archive/unarchive.

If you don't allow program writeback and use mirage you can stay a long time without garbage collecting.

i once couldn't use the archive anymore because my batteries were low. It said it couldn't garbage collect because of those low batteries.

Solution: replace batteries. Apparently garbage collecting is an exhausting process.

It is... I used to carry around an extra set of batteries just in case. Then I bought an 89 and didn't really need to worry about GCing. Laughing

Using this procedure, someone can write a massive 220K game in the form of an APP, add a Startup feature, similar to TI's Startup App, and use the 24K of RAM solely for gamesave purposes... You'd have an entire-calc game and you'd still be able to use the calc for "calculating."

EDIT:
It looks like you can't transfer FlashApps after this program is run... nevermind...

If you can get away with never ever garbage collecting this would be useful...
