I've tried it - surprisingly, it doesn't dr5ain as much as you'd think.

How did you hook it up? Directly to the batteries? Oh, that's right, you're working on CSE... I get it now...

BTW, where would you get plexiglass small enough to fit into the calc?

you can probably get plexiglass that size from any hardware store. loews or home depot or mabye even ace hardware. you may have to check around a little.

I thought they only had big sheets of them. Do you think they sell plexiglass cutters?

Well, it's not on Ace Hardware's website... nor Home Depot's... is there an alternate name for plexiglass?

AHA! PROOFTHAT THE USB PORT ON THE CALC IS POWERED!

Well, I have now concluded that the TI84+SE has a Mini USB connector.

Errr...no, it just means that the normal 2 data lines and a gnd connection are there, as per the regular cable... Laughing

You can ask at the store and they'll cut the plexiglass.

Well then, how do you hook up two calcs with the USB cable then? AND have it work with NO voltage at all?

Do the normal cables transmit any voltage?? If not, there's your answer.

You have to have some voltage to send a signal.

a USB cable has 4 contacts... I think it's 2 for power, 2 for data. Yes, the data ones have power, each has power theoretically half of the time. But not only is that unreliable, but it's nowhere near the 5v of the power contacts. (when said power contacts are connected directly to a normal power source... unpowered hubs reduce this voltage, and so does using ducks to attack the air force... er... forget the ducks... there's no power unless they're being powered, anyhow...)

Well, at least there's some power there when data communication is present through the Mini-USB port and yes, normal cables do have voltage.

There's one + voltage pin, a ground pin, a data+ pin, and a data- pin in a USB connector.

The regular linkport uses +5v at ~10mA to send signals...

Are you sure? If so, then why do you have an external power supply for your PS/2 schematics if they run off of 5v?

Because those data lines use voltage to indicate the presence of a signal: there's no other way to do it. You also need +5v to power the mouse's internal circuit board and PIC processor, light up the underlight (for optical mice), etc.

Ah, I forgot you used both data lines in your schematic. What if the linkport is idle? Is there any voltage present?

Data lines high means no signal; if a line is brought low (i.e. shorted to ground), a signal is present.

Erm, I'm betting it's a "client" USB connection, not a "server" one. Meaning you couldn't connect stuff to it, you can just connect it to a PC.

No, you can connect two calcs together with a Mini-USB cable and it'll work; just check out the TI84+SE website www.84silver.com
But right now, we're talking about the regular link port.
