WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS???? Now, when you unlock an asm program, you can see code that cannot be read(for example: +Sin-1(Else->DMSLinReg )

I am editing a basic program and suddenly, I see the same code!!! I press 2nd + Quit. Then, I check the value of a variable in the homescreen and then, ram cleared!!!!! Neutral

It's only the RAM, no need for a new OS.

Is it normal? well, it depends on your view of normal...
Normal, as in, could happen under normal circumstances? i think so.
Normal, as in, does it happen very often? no.
Mathematically speaking, you have a less than 1/ram size chance of it filling up just the wrong ammount of ram.
What can you do to prevent it? keep lots of ram empty, watch what you're doing, don't unlock ASM progs(note: only helps prevent the random charachters, which are a problem in themselves), and if something wierd appears, get rid of it.

Oops I thought he unarchived it and had it saying that stuff on the screen where you can view your RAM and stuff, my bad.
Yeah, just goes to show you shouldn't try to edit BASIC into ASM programs.

You mean, when you try to check the memory menu after you did something, and your RAM value came up to be negative?
That happened to me once (negative RAM-free). It was cool using memory I didn't have, but it crashed after I tried to do anything. I wished I could have screen-shotted that moment.

That's what it sounds like you're saying. Unlocking to edit it in BASIC...

This is a very strange crash. Normally, when BASIC programs crash in the editor like this, I have to suspect there was a VAT error at fault. Generally, my motto is: "If something strange appears, get out quick and back up everything important." To make sure I understand the "crimescene" , I'll ask a few questions:

* What was the original BASIC program intended to do?
* Did the BASIC prog manipulate any non-Real variables? (Particularly Lists and Matricies?)
* Did you upload and/or use an ASM program prior to the crash?
* Would you consider your calculator "cluttered?" (dozens of mixed variables?)

1) the basic program was just supposed to display some text and input some things.
2) no
3) yes
4) I don't think so

Do you have any programs that either edit themselves (keep highscores), or that edit other programs? (these would be ASM)

I've encountered several times where some TI-OS thing prints nearly 20K worth of garbage to the screen whenever I tried doing some strange stuff involving strings and Y=equations and combo text crap or something else. I didn't use any ASM programs that would have changed anything to that extent, but the TI-OS just tends to generate this garbage. And what's even worse is that you can press [ENTER] to all that garbage and watch the thing crash in many colors (most notably, a failing blue). Razz
