It will be text based, and if i can get some suport, i may have a high level of customization of your character as well as create more gameplay as you keep going.

But, as with any endeavor, I need ideas and opinions. (And I'm pretty sure thats the whole point of this forum. Laughing )

take yourself a break, take a look at why diablo died, then do off topic programs, do some utilities, like special menus or funky text, whatever comes to mind, then just wait for a big idea to come, it will happen eventually, and the longer you wait, the more cool utilities you will have for it!

there is more than text

Graphic RPG's > Text RPG's.

There's only few text RPG's that can compete with graphical one's, and they all involve an internet connection and several hundred other players.

You might want to check out NetHack, which uses ascii art graphics (doable on the homescreen by outputting charcaters).

not necessarily true, you just gotta get the right challenge, and storyline, throw in something original, then it won't matter about whether it's a big 3D game with photorealistic textures, or if it has no art at all(I've heard rumors that the text based RPG I made back in high school is still floating around, maybe I'll try to pick it up and spread it around on here even though I only finished like half of it). The point of this whole message is, the success of your game depends on the gameplay, everything else is just added icing..

As for my vote, I say a puzzle game..

Seriously, I couldn't agree more, only problem is that currently existing text RPG's simply don't compete with currently existing graphical RPG's (yes, this includes 3D PC MMORPG's), mostly because few advanced programmers choose to write text games when they can write graphical one's. Not to mention game companies don't write text games anymore because nobody will buy them, so their professionalism is put into graphical games. Also, graphics in RPG's tend to enhance gameplay in many ways.

I thought Contra was an action game.. not a roleplaying game..

There are no good basic RPGs, and like EEDOK said, Contra is definatly not an RPG.
