Try taking the batteries out (including the little one) and hold clear+on while you put them back in. |

That's some pretty odd behavior for a calc. I'd start by removing all the batteries; including the backup cell. If that doesn't work I'd remove the batteries again and short the +/- battery terminals with a stick of graphite (from a mechanical pencil). This should reset any residual data in the static RAM. If that doesn't work, it's time to visit eBay. |

if you can, use a piece of wire instead of graphite...graphite has a high resistance |

Precisely, using graphite will ensure a slower and longer capacitance discharge away from any devices that may be holding the residual charge. Otherwise, you'd run the risk of exceeding the max allowable current for those devices in the discharging "pulse". |

What does [Clear] + [On] do?
PS: take a big hammer, write "format" on it, and let's have a go! |

Did you check the contrast?
I'm all up for the hammer idea. |

I dunno but that's what the people at the DS forum said to do when you do the MirageOS bug, so maybe it will do something. |

It forces the Flash memory to run a self check, in which it turns each individual bit on, reads to ensure that it turned on, and then turns them all off, and reads to make sure they're all off. extremely destructive to anything stored anywhere on the calc, since you'll need to re-install the os, thus clearing the ram, and it clears the arc itself. But it's good for solving problems caused by anything bad being on the calc. |

Oh, I forgot to ask earlier: was the calc damaged somehow? (Left out in the snow, etc.?)

this ain't gunna help...i was walking home from my bus stop (at the time lived in a trailerpark), my calc fell outa my bookbag and into the snow somewhere. I spent about a week or two looking for it. I got it back froma friend who found it. LUCKY ME!!!. The screws were all rusted so i took it apart with a torx wrench and dried it off. It was soaked in the inside. It was hairy for a while, didn't do add subtract, divide and other stuff right for a couple days. After some use it straitend right out. Works perfect now.
So i don't think the snow would harm it. Maybe if u submerged it in water.
But that is a problem i have not heard of. Try e-mailing the people at ti or something. Or tell "her" that she's gotta spend $90-$100 on a new calc. |

You mean that it did the operations but returned incorrect results? Like 1+1 [Enter] 3? |

wrong. on+clear clears memory.
[mode] then [Alpha]+[S] will do the Archive Self-Test as you described it |

I would imagine the same thing as if an ERR:BREAK were to somehow occur durring a garbageCollect: total destruction of the ROM. |
