well, i would rather have sonic move FAST and no greyscale and look like greyscale because of the speed then to have greyscale and be slow....

You are joking .... right?

You never heard of sprites? Or MonoChrome Graphics?

Sprite - A sprite is what you would call the little images of characters & tiles etc

MonoChrome Graphics - The term 'MonoChrome' refers to the fact that the sprites/Graphics have a possiblility of being one of two colours (either black or white).

:).

Look, monochrome graphics ust means you don't use any colors except black and white, there's nothing else to it.

Maybe greyscales sprites and monochrome backgrounds is the way to go. Make it kind of a compromise between speed and appearance? By the way, which Sonic game were you most interested in re-creating?

A remake of Sonic 1 (8-bit) wouldn't be too advanced to develope. And the smaller levels would probably fit on the average Z80 calc.

The main problem is getting the tilemapper to smoothly scroll at such an insane speed. But i still agree that it would be possible Smile.

CrASH_MAN's tilemap routines are blazing fast! Usually faster than the LCD (blurring). This was mentioned in a small discussion a few weeks ago. I'm not certain if Sam Heald ever used these routines, but his are also a very good example of how fast scrolling can go.

I'm curious to know how you'd do those gravity-defying loops in a Sonic game. The collision system is especially puzzling, since you'd be working with uphill/downhill surfaces instead of the traditional square tile.

So has anyone started working on this yet? Also, who all is on the team? It would be sweet to actually see stuff getting done.

My 2 cents: Go with monochrome to save the speed. Do whatever kind of scrolling necessary to keep the speed of the game. Also, don't make the background so dark like in Mario. It's too hard to see.
