Depending on what's in str1 and str2 it should work I think.

Pretty sure it works for me anyway.

You could try expr(Str1+"-("+Str2) instead. I think that when you did it, it plugged in X when trying to add the two expr's.

Actually, I think it needs to be an expresion, cause when I try it with a string, it says ERR:BAD GUESS

And I tested that code before I posted it so it should work.

It still does not work or at least try typing in 2X+8 and then press enter and enter 1X+10 and it wont give you an answer. In the program I stick a pause after it and then it goes to a lable, but I dont think that matters. What's wrong with it?

Well it works for me, make sure you typed it in right, maybe try it in VTI or reset your RAM.

it says

solve(expression,variable,guess[,{lower,upper}])

The []s mean it is optional.

TI-83+ Manual, Appendix A
NO brackets.

strait from the PDF manual you linked to :
Quote:
solve(expression,variable,
guess,{lower,upper})
Solves expression for variable, given
an initial guess and lower and upper
bounds within which the solution is
sought.
if there are no brakets, then what are these?
solve(expression,variable,guess,{lower,upper})
the braces( {} ) are in both. the brackets ( [] ) arent.

Yea, the {} just means it's a list.

I don't see why it was made a list. I mean, why not just have two arguments?
