Hello everyone! NimbusOS APP 1 is here... well mostly.

NimbusOS APP 1 Beta 5 is attached to this post at the bottom.

You can check the Splash screen by pressing STAT. You will see BETA 5.

Sorry we are late in relasing stuff; I know you expected it by Christmas of 2002, but that deadline came and went as did Christmas 2003.

Well, as we said earlier, if not complete we would release what we have as another beta, so we are now up to Beta 5, which just happens to be the beta for APP 1.

You probably already know that Beta means incomplete, so do not expect this to be MirageOS quality. Obviously we do not relase stuff unless we believe it stable, so it should not casue any problems when run on your calculator.

Being an application, it will not run on a regular TI-83, but should run perfectly on a TI-83 Plus or a TI-83 Plus SE, which by the way did not exist when we started the NimbusOS project a long time ago.

Currently, NimbusOS does not support MirageOS programs, but if you try to run them, they should simply not run. You may even get a neat little message

NimbusOS should support every Ion Program ever made, since it is 100% Ion 1.6 compliant. Heck, we have a clone of the Ion library fuctions provided by Joe W himself. We do not use any extra memory for safe ram, so there should be no conflicts what so ever.

NimbusOS supports ASM programs too!

You can even run Basic Programs, but like MirageOS, we tend to have similar but slightly different problems when running Basic programs. All kinds of wierd stuff happens, but usually it works. I have no idea what happens on an 83 Plus SE when you run BASIC because I haven't tested it. Most likely this will result stuff being displayed incorrectly, and somtimes you won't return to NimbusOS...

On the other hand, we have a nice little error handler, which is incomplete, but you can see it in action by running a basic program that encounters an error Very Happy

We have a battery symbol up in the upper right; when it changes, it means the batteries are low. The free ram and archive are always displayed at the top, and the function keys are y= through Graph.

Pressing delete deletes a program. Yes, it asks for confirmation.

The arrow keys are obvious. Enter or 2nd should load the program.

+ and - control the contrast level; there is even a nice little bar that displays the current level.

Stat will display the splash screen again.

The splash screen will only show the first time you run NimbusOS, and can be skipped at any time for your convienience.

NimbusOS can run archived programs without first unarchiving them; however, if the program changes itself, NimbusOS will write the changes back, so saved games and high scores get saved.

on/off will turn the calc on and off from within NimbusOS

If you see Garbage Collect, you should probably select Yes.

If you have questions, post them here!

Hehehe, I get to experience the first major crash! Blue lines of death and everything!

Ok so maybe that's not a good thing....

Maybe it's a bug maybe it's not.

If you have one or more programs on your calc and you press up in the program menu (at the top of the list) you get an unknown program. Well I unhid it, of course that's just me. Then I deleted it. I repeated this proceedure twice and the second time my calc's lcd shut off, then turned on, went black then proceeded to give quite the nice glitch of blue lines all over the screen!

Never seen that before, but I have had strange stuff happen.

Those wierd programs should not have been see by the program sorter. They are actually the command buffer and the last entry.

If you hide programs, sometimes they disappear from NimbusOS which is supposed to see hidden programs.

If this happens, restart NimbusOS and you will see the programs you hide are still there.

Anyway, those wierd programs do exist, but should not be detected

If you do see them, don't mess with them. Instead, just exit and restart NimbusOS. If you mess with them, everything should be okay until you exit NimbusOS and TI-OS goes looking for them :)

Your bug is now noted, and will be looked into eventually.

Thank You, Justin.

well, as testers, i guess you job is to make nimbus crash, then report what we did/programs loaded so it can be fixed. we could have a contest to see who can find the most bugs Smile

hehe, i played with the variables, locked, unlocked etc. and i had some fun :P

i was in the Flash Debugger, and i unlocked the 11 byte basic program who you must scroll up to see, and his name changed to "c" (yes, lowercase) and then i went and typed '56' on the home screen and pressed enter. (i am sure this is where the blue lines came in.) the calc turned off.

i turned it on. saw '56' in the corner, then it went off again. repeated this several times.

after a couple times, it just displayed the entire memory i think, and it was just scrolling through it all. then it all went inverse, then the screen had little lines all over...

looks to me like the TI-OS has a little bug (they need to check for the var before writing to it Razz)

I got an error sending nimbus to the calculator... TI Connect has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Could the weird programs be the last entry and what you type in on the home screen? They show up in calcsys and mirage as basic programs (but mirage doesn't show them until you type a colon).

Edit: weird. I typed in a colon, pressed enter, and it said "Done".

Strange

Has anyone had success installing it on a real calculator?

I am sure the hex file works, and I know it is signed with Wappsign.

Oh BTW JBirk, the oncomers and camoflauged users was the work of Jon. He modded the forum to display guests as incomers and anonymous users as Camouflauged users.

This OS looks sweet. A lot like MirageOS, but it seems a little easier to use. But what does it mean when I press up and it goes to a blank list of programs, and it says "Unknown Program" with a blank space highlighted? And what do the four icons on the right mean?

EDIT: When I turned off HIDE, I got a program at the bottom of the list called "c" too. Maybe thats what the unknown program is...?

Try deleting stuff on your calc, then send it again. If that doesnt work, update to version 1.16 OS on the TI website.
