This is so great!
I'm pretty sure the keys will be able to be back up publicly soon. Smile

I personally love all the terms they're using to refer to us...hackers, researchers, hobbyists.

I would think that from all the publicity this is getting, TI will have to stop bothering us just because it'll ruin their PR anyways.

The legal threats are baseless, so unless they come up with another reason why we can't post the keys, there's nothing they can do, including stay quiet. It's public knowledge that TI tried this, and they've embarrassed themselves beyond repair to the entire world. We've won.

The keys are on WikiLeaks, would you want them.

As TI's DMCA claims are completely baseless, the community and the EFF will probably win the lawsuit.

We won the freedom to post the keys anywhere we want. Well, almost. It depends if TI still wants to pursue this futile effort.

The keys are RSA keys. Okay, for an Operating System to make it to your calculator, it must be signed. It is signed using an encryption algorithm called RSA, which is made up of two huge factors. If these factors are found, then our own OS can be signed, and used.

He means that there are 3 days left. It's like saying T-6. In this case, he is referring to the day when the keys are able to be re-released, according to the eff.

This actually only applies to Brandon Wilson, Tom Cross, and Duncan Smith. TI is still free to sue anyone who posts the keys, including them. We won't have a "right" firmly established unless TI sues one of those three, at which point they go to court, with the EFF providing legal representation. (Well, anyone can do the going-to-court thing, but only those three have help from the EFF.)

Is there any kind of legal advantage to waiting the extra 60 days after the cease and desist order?

Tom Cross and Duncan Smith have also reposted their articles. If memory serves, that would be http://students.washington.edu/f/ and http://www.memestreams.net/

It's yet to be seen how TI will respond to this, but I would recommend to anyone thinking of posting the keys to go ahead and do it. This definitely isn't going away until we win.

On a side note, I know the people that developed the underlying protection system in the nspire. Unfortunately for you all, they are VERY VERY good at what they did there and I honestly doubt that system will ever be cracked. Sad

Those "people" apparently aren't very good at all, because we've already broken it. We now have the decrypted OS, are studying it, and unless I'm mistaken, we've already found bugs/exploits they tried to fix later on.

Never underestimate this community.

EDIT: Necroposting, I know, but it needed to be said.

Seconded! (what can be made, can also be unmade...)

As I already stated, I hope I can be of any help to this mega-project...
Anyone having a good disassembly out there, 'cause I don't feel like wasting my time creating one when there is a good one available.

Just for curiosity, the discovery of the keys for the calculators (z80 and 68k) causes were:
- TI usual silliness that leaved some vulnerability to us
- Evolution of home computers processing power
- Or other? Or a combination of the two?
