Master's Graduation; DCS 6.4b Coming Soon
Published by KermMartian on May 27, 2010 at 1:37:57 PM CST | Discuss this article (74)

In the midst of all the calculator coding work I've been doing over the past several weeks, I'm happy to announce that a day shy of one year after graduating with my Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, I've earned my Master's degree in EE as well. I defended my thesis, "Applications of Convolutional Neural Networks to Facial Detection and Recognition for Wearable Computing and Augmented Reality," on May 3rd of this year, and have released documentation, images, and videos here on Cemetech. I will be attending the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences beginning in the fall, working towards my PhD degree in the field of Computer Science.

I am also happy to confirm that as promised when Doors CS 6.3 beta was released earlier this month, Doors CS 6.4 beta is on track for release by the end of May. This version will bring completely overhauled underpinnings to the complex RunProg system, including robust handling of nested programs, support for the MirageOS entry vector RunProg, and perhaps most importantly, Noshell-style execution of ASM (nostub, Ion, MirageOS, DCS, etc), BASIC, unarchived, and archived programs directly from the homescreen. It also includes myriad bug fixes based on helpful feedback from you, my users and beta-testers. You can find a full list of things I've been fixing at the DCS7 Scratchwork page on the Doors CS wiki, as well as more information about the new RunProg Chaining system. I am trying to solve one major problem with the homescreen ParserHook, then implement a few minor features, before Doors CS 6.4 beta will be ready. Specifically, running archived BASIC programs from the homescreen causes an odd error when the program has completed, but before Doors CS regains control. I am currently debugging deep inside TI's _parseinp code, trying to figure out where things are going amiss, on the assumption that I must be forgetting to set up something important. Look for Doors CS 6.4 beta before Tuesday, and as always, drop by and tell me about your bug reports, feature suggests, comments, and rants and raves.
