Here is a comparison of how a completely valid XHTML page renders in 4 different browsers. The results are not terrible surprising.
(Firefox)
(Opera)
(MSN Explorer)
(Internet Explorer)
Browser Face Off using the Acid2 Test, which is available here: http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/test.html

First off, what the page SHOULD look like:

First up, the age old Internet Explorer vs. FireFox

Winner: FireFox (by a landslide)

Next, Opera vs. FireFox

Winner: Opera

Next, Opera vs. Epiphany (epiphany is the default Gnome browser)

Winner: Opera

Next, Opera vs. Konqueror (konqueror is the default KDE browser)

Winner: Konqueror with the ONLY perfect rendering! (Mac's Safari is able to boast a similar claim, but I don't have a Mac)

[Kllrnohj's uberlong post

haha. liar.
Opera 9 and Safari have the only perfect rendering.

Konqueror and iCab claim to be perfect but ignore some of the scrollbar stuff.

Umm...Opera 9 is beta still, therefore doesn't count

iCab and Konqueror are both valid, and WaSP even aknowledges this: http://www.webstandards.org/2005/06/07/icab-konqueror-pass-acid2/

Acid2 doesn't do any scrollbar testing

Oh, and you didn't need to quote my ENTIRE post, as it was long, remove all the [img] tags at the very least

Yes, it does count. If you really want to be picky, wait a month for the final release.

No it doesn't. Go to http://opera.com/ and you'll see in big bold letters Opera 8.5. Go to download, and it does not list 9.0 there. You know what that means? THAT ITS A BETA!!!! Guess what a beta is? A TEST! It is NOT meant to be used, and this is about browsers meant for day-to-day browsing. When 9.0 is released, i might update this, i might not. Either way, opera 9.0 does NOT count yet, as it is NOT released. Period. End of Story. (this is my comparison anyway, how dare you try and tell me how i want my comparison to work!)

Wow, are you in an anger management program? If so, it's not working. You can find the beta here.
lol, no that is just him. Smile
*cough*

overflow: hidden; /* hides scrollbars on viewport, see 11.1.1:3 */

pwned

btw, Ill add a screenshot of safari and opera 9 (iCab as well if I can find a computer with it). as soon as I get a chance. and there was an official announcement on WaSP that

No, but you pissed me off with your n00bish ways. Do NOT tell me how to run my browser comparison. If you don't like it, make your own.
just cause Konqueror ain't perfect, dont flip.

you can still use the Opera 9 beta.

:-p

May I point out how the Acid2 test only tests extremely obscure and specific object positioning methods??

and from the link in that article:

http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/operaStuff/acid/ wrote:
Opera 9 (get the weekly build) now passes the Acid 2 test, making it the second browser to do so. And yes, I can count. Safari passed first, and Opera is second. Konqueror and iCab almost passed (and claimed to pass), but they both failed to apply one of the styles required by the test, and as a result they displayed a scrollbar even though they shouldn't (the Acid 2 guide neglects to mention this style, but see the source code for the test itself):

html { ... overflow: hidden; /* hides scrollbars on viewport, see 11.1.1:3 */ ... }
Konqueror 3.5.2 now passes Acid 2 completely - congratulations.

Meh, I think a better, more comprehensive test is in order
I have screenshots from iCab, Safari and Opera 9.

Safari and Opera pass.

iCab shares the scrollbar issue with Konqueror.

edit:

crap, I cut off the relevant part in the iCab/Konqueror shot

edit2: news ones

Heh, nice job. I still think that the ACID2 test is kind of pointless, considering the limited and obscure stuff that it tests.
updated the screenies above. see edit.

Cool
Ah, I see. They both do it fairly well, except for that blurring around the eyes in the second one.
What's up with the test? I agree with Kerm that it only tests a few of a browser's abilities, because Internet Explorer doesn't mess up a page that horribly. As far as I know that acid test is one of the few instances where it doesn't show me what I want to see. Anyways, so from what I've seen in this thread Konqueror and Opera are the best browsers. I should give them a try.
