The Apple G5 Quad Core starts at around $4000. on the apple website, if you add on every available option, it gets up over $23000. and no. that is not an extra 0. 16GB of RAM and not 1, but 2 30" HD flat panels. 2, 500GB, 7200RPM hard drives. A Quadro FX 4500 graphics card with 512 MB of RAM.

/me is drooling Wink
Heh, reminds me of the Voodoo site. You can make a $20,000 computer there as well.
16GB of ram?! 60" of LCD?! 2.5TB of storage?! only $23K?! Sign me up!! Laughing
I too would take it if I had sufficient funds. I can only imagine what would be possible with that much hardware....
I'm thinking uber gaming...
Surprised

Holy Fracking Cripe... That system ought to be able to read your mind... Laughing
Laughing With 4 cores, I wouldn't be surprised if it could...
Edit: here's what I got:
Subtotal $23,476.00

I configured it with every option, including 4 processors, 16GB ram, 1TB, 4 graphics cards, and 2 30" displays. Very Happy

bah, try this system on for size:

TYAN S4881G2NR Quad Socket 940 NVIDIA nForce4 Professional 2200 SSI EEB v3.5 footprint Server Motherboard - $1,419.99
4xAMD Dual-Core Opteron 280 Italy 1GHz HT 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket 940 Dual Core Processor - $3700
16xCrucial Technology 2GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM ECC Registered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory - $8640
3ware 9550SX-16ML 64-bit/133MHz PCI-X SATA II Half length Multi-lane RAID Controller RAID 0,/1/10/5/50, Single Disk and JBOD - $864.99
20xWestern Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000KS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $6880
2xXFX PV-T71G-UDD7 GeForce 7900 GT XXX (560MHz) 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - $718
4xApple Cinema HD Display (30" flat panel) - $9,996
4xPLEXTOR Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 4X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE 16X DVD±R DVD Burner - $351.96
2xPC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW EPS12V 1000W Power Supply 100 - 240V - $939.98

Total Price: $46,290.92

And for those who don't want to read through all that, here is the specs:

8 x Athlon Opteron 2.4ghz cores (32- and 64-bit)
32gb Ram
10TB storage
4 x 30" LCD displays
2 x 7900GTs (overclocked)
4 x DVD Burners

Theoretically, this all SHOULD work....lol

It would even leave open 2 PCI-X 100mhz slots! (so you could get even more hdd's if you really wanted too..) The motherboard also supports up to 64gb of ram, but i didn't find any 4gb sticks of ram to stick in its 16 slots...

Oh, and i didn't get the Quadro FX because its slower than a reg 7900GT at things like games, quadro's are made for 3d rendering like 3dsmax and such (in fact, the difference between the two are largely just in the drivers), and if i got that system you better believe that its for games Laughing
Macs are more designed for the rendering of sweet graphics then playing them....

are Opteron's 32bit or 64bit?

opty's are 64bit (w/ 32bit proggy support, of course)

and that beast i spec'd would spank a mac at rendering, even without the quadro's
what can I say? 8 processors are better than 4....

lol, but of course Wink (ditto for 2 graphics cards are better than one also Laughing )

yeesh, apple's expensive, 16gb of ram for $10,000+??? i got twice that much ram for less! what a rip Rolling Eyes
w00t for proprietary hardware.
O. M. G. Kllrnohj. When I'm rich, I want that rig plz. Smile
elfprince13 wrote:

but its NOT proprietary, you can go to newegg and buy registered DDR2 ram that will work in the G5 the exact same as the kind you buy at apple

Kerm: why wait till your rich? just buy that instead of something stupid like a house Razz
Heh, I could live inside the computer instead. Very Happy What size case does that monster use?
KermMartian wrote:

eh, case isn't included, cause, well....i don't know of a case big enough, so you'll pretty much have to build one yourself - ditto for case cooling

the power that thing'll drain tho...i hope the 2,000w of PSU i gave it is enough Smile
Laughing I would think it would be a bit on the FRIGGIN HUGE side though, no?
KermMartian wrote:

eh, not too big, just take a normal mid tower and build a hdd cage underneath underneath it, with a second cage on top the mid tower for the 2 1,000w PSU's - which are longer than a "standard" PSU
And imagine the electricity that would suck up - 1kW Shock
