Ok, I found the problem with the routine. Well, actually, Erik discovered it: the TIOS is generating an interrupt to update the run indicator and messing up the LCD in the process. Hence the random displaying of the arrow.
Just add _RunIndicOff just after START, and the routine should run just fine.
Oh.... you didn't have the runindicator turned off? Very five.
