I'm looking for a way to find the Calculator's ID (like the one found by going to MEM([2nd][+]) then going to the option for about). Is there a method or system variable that I can call to find this?
I'd like to say yes, but I think it requires one of the 8x utilities. ROM8x or something. Someone more knowledgeable will chime in soon I hope!
I was going more so that I could test it in an if statement say:

if(Calc.GetId() == ID){
//do something
}
Oh! Okay.

Are you using ASM or BASIC? If you're using ASM you can follow this CALCnet2 wiki page under "Memory Areas" to retrieve your calcs ID.

Also, I don't think this has to do with Kerms book "Programming the TI-83 Plus/TI-84 Plus" so I'm going to move the topic to the appropriate category. I've moved this to "General Programming" until a better category is determined through the conversation.
