I consider "I write hex" to be a statement that the person is capable of converting to hexadecimal. If someone is an accountant, they are good at moving money around, not decimal numbers. My point was that the information contained was the same.
"I write hex" is only equivalent to "I write machine code" in this case if the person can convert. (Not a difficult task)

OK, fair enough. And would you consider "I write hex" to be a meaningless statement as far as programming language knowledge on its own? My point was that the information contained was the same.
