comicIDIOT, I'll try to answer the question for both of us. I don't understand why DSLR's would need non-electronic viewfinders; maybe nikky will be non-sarcastic for a minute and explain it, or else I'll JFGI. The DSLR sensor-blocking definitely is the reason for the two sensors, but what's the reason why the primary sensor needs to be blocked. It's not a chemical mechanism like the human eye.

They can't reflect exactly what the lens views, and they don't take up battery power. Finally, it allows a much greater affinity with the camera.

Thanks nikky, that makes a lot of sense. Also, nice photos, although I've seen some of them before on Facebook. One of my favorites:

That's exactly why DSLR's have non-electric viewfinder but my concern was with the DSLT, not the DSLR.

I honestly don't follow the electronic viewfinder here. .... I guess electronic viewfinders is another downside to a DSLT.
The electronic viewfinder may even have a slight lag that seeing through the lens (TTL) will never have. So that .1ms shutter lag may be .2 due to LCD lag combined with shutter lag. So...
I'm sure everything imaginable to amplify the light was tried but I'd still like to see a "natural" viewfinder in a DSLT.
But wouldn't it just be 66% dimmer than you'd be expecting? I feel like that would be super-frustrating, especially when shooting in low light.

@Lucas: Nice! How are you liking it? Will we see any photos here in the topic?
This is my first Camera, so I don't really know. Plus I've never gone beyond a point and shoot on Auto before this. And yeah, I guess I can show you some pictures.

@Kerm I've selected Photography as one of my Electives for Year 9 next year (As well as Information and Software Technology ). The Canon EOS 1000D is meant to be entry level....prosumer? I may go towards professional but my budget would not allow it (Hope I have a job by then :/)
Well, Canon has three levels of DSLRs. They have their Four and three Digit SLR's, (1000, 400, 350, 450, etc) are mostly consumer cameras, their double digit (60, 40, 10, etc) are prosumer and the single digits (1, 5, 7, etc) are their professional line.
However, the 7D doesn't fit the typical build for a professional camera because it has a cropped sensor instead of a full frame (35mm, just like 35mm Film).
I myself have a 350D and am either looking to upgrade to a T2i (550 I think), a 7D or a Sony Alpha 55.

The PowerShot G11 is, in fact, a Prosumer Point and Shoot. But that's only good for taking RAW quality photos in places that ban "professional" photography without a permit; usually they'll stop anyone with a DSLR and not a point and shoot, regardless of your expertise.
But you can get the same RAW QUALITY shots with a hacked consumer PowerShot with a DIGIC II or III processor.
Point & Shoot and DSLR's are in different classes. So a Prosumer Point & Shoot is no where near the scope of a Consumer DSLR. You're purchase is sound

Hooray! I'll upload some snaps to my Deviant soon. But be aware, these were taken on the first day, and no tripod.
deviantART?! :D
