Interesting hearing an MS engineer not only acknowledge the presence of Linux, but also that it is forcing their hand in making their products (virtual PC) support it. w00t.
It's definitely a step in the right direction, but they're still dealing with bloated code. A 40MB kernel is not exactly tiny when you compare it with *nix.

It is when you remember that what he is calling a "kernel" is the entire OS (albeit in a very limited form) including the limited http server, not just the kernel. Also, it was running with 40MB of *RAM* (7mb was free), not hard drive space. It has a 25mb hard drive footprint.
OK, so that's not the end of the world. But then again, *how* big is DSL with a full OS, GUI, applications, etc? Razz
