The 64-bit and 32-bit versions use different CD-keys as I understand it, so no you can't. While the 64-bit version comes on the Ultimate DVD, I believe you must exchange your CD-key within X number of days to get a 64-bit one (or it has to be an unregistered one).

But regardless, Ultimate is a complete waste of money - just get home premium

That tutorial can be summed up quite simply: RTFM Very Happy No, but seriously, always at least read the motherboard manual, it contains some very good information.

And make sure you read the OEM license to understand what the difference is: http://www.microsoft.com/oem/sblicense/default.mspx

I am assuming you mean know that it an only be installed on one computer, right?

You assume wrong - I mean read the license agreement, which is why I said "read the OEM license" Rolling Eyes at minimum skim through it (you'd be surprised with some of the stuff you are agreeing to)
For monitors, I'm in love with Dell 2007WFPs. In fact, I have two of them.

How much does that cost? It looks like it is something like 300 from the reviews.
The Dell monitor is a solid choice, but it lacks the luster of the 90GX2 (my sister and dad both have a Dell LCD) - and its more expensive at $360 ( http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-4688 ). The only thing extra that the Dell has that might be nice is composite/S-video input, but other than that, I'd take a 90GX2 over a 2007WFP anyday Very Happy
YAY!!! The CPU's price dropped down to only $175, great deal =D
o.O I added home premium 64 bit OEM and I then I looked at the price for the build...

Does anyone see anywhere where I can cut down on the price? (Besides GPU and CPU) Neutral
Dunno, but as we covered with foamy's build, get the 32 bit version. 64 bit, is, to say the least, a work in progress.
Ok, I'll change that in a minutes I guess.

Right now, the computer comes out at $1,947.36 including tax and shipping (Aren't I just a lucky bastard... Tennessee is one of the few states they charge a tax for... California, Tennessee and New Jersey)
Jeez... I'm building my friend a comp... I'm only budgeting $350 for it, but I've already got it worked out to where it should come out fairly nice...
Whoa. Post your current part list here - I'll look it over.

I spec'd a decent rig for my dad at right about $1,000 (X2 4200, Radeon X1900 256mb, 2gb RAM)

I am expecting this comp to be a really good gaming one that I will *hopefully* not have to upgrade for a few years Wink
Wow, if you can get a decent comp for $350 I might just build a spare. Smile

Well, this will be good too... AMD 64 X2 3800+, 1gb of RAM, a Nvidia vid card with 256mb, etc...

Lol, you can get an AMD Sempron 64 2800+ for 27 bucks Surprised

The dx10 card alone is 280, including 1 game.

My ram almost costs more than your entire computer Surprised

Wait... holy shit, the ram is 300, Kllrnohj, do you think I could cut that down?

EDIT: I am looking at it and there are 105 dollars worth of mail in rebates there, so if I can cut off another 100 it might be ok, I will have to see how far I can bend on the budget.

EDIT2: I was reading the reviews and saw this:

Quote:
Last week these were $199 with a $50 MIR.

This was rated 2 days ago, so I think the reason it seems so high now is because the price went up 50-100. I saw the price of the system the other day after the AMD price drops and was wondering why the overall price of the computer hadn't gone down. I'm gonna take a look at some other ram, I can probably easily cut 100 off here.
Dude, the 2GB corsair XMS2 is $150 ($120-something after a mail-in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145590 with the faster ram being $215 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145168

Now post a complete part list! I must review it!
