I make music in ModTracker.

I have a bunch of good free MIDI composing software, but it's all for Windows. Sad
Does anyone know of any good music making software (midi ones) that are free? I found som, but I am not sure if they are good or not

P.S. most of those are for Linux, but some have Windows versions, I need something for windows

[edit]

So no ideas re: the GarageBand problem? Oh well. Harq: I've found some decent MIDI composition software on download.com.

Never heard of it or used it, but it *sounds* perfect Wink

EDIT: Oh wait, just noticed he needs one for windows. I know there are a couple, but I don't remember their names anymore. Oh well, sucks to be a windows user Razz
I'm definitely into composing music (of many types, too).

*cough*cygwin*cough*

and theres that program that runs linux on windows inside its own window....
You mean VMWare or any other virtual PC program? Those are pretty slow though....

Speaking of which, linux is about to get a built in one in the 2.6.20 kernel w/ full virtualization support, woohoo! http://kvm.sourceforge.net/

no, I dont mean VMWare, its not a virtual pc, it actually runs the linux kernel as a windows application....think WINE in reverse.
It's called QEMU. You can get it packaged with DSL.
Oh, you mean cygwin? Razz (I think we just went in a circle, but its the only program of its type that I know of, short of a virtual PC)

@Kerm: no its not. QEMU is a Linux Virtual PC program that has a windows port: http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/

You missed my post. Razz
nope, I dont mean Cygwin or VPC or Qemu, etc. its a freeware program called side-along linux or something like that. Ill google it or find my bookmark for it when i get home.

So I did. I hoped to beat you to an edit.
hmm, this is the exact program I was thinking of, but it does essentially the same thing, Ill try to find the original: http://topologi-linux.sourceforge.net/index.php?menu=5

[edit]

aha, they mention what Im thinking of on the page, CoLinux http://www.colinux.org/
Oh yeah, I've heard of that. Still, I'd guess it wouldn't be that much faster than a virtual PC, as its going to have to go through various translation layers so that the linux kernel gets hardware access...

its much faster....there's no instruction translation/extra hardware abstraction necessary.

Hmm... cool. But still, I must ask, why not just run Linux? Razz

Windows suxx0rz Very Happy
I do have linux, but I use Windows for everyday needs (*cough*games*cough*)
