Challenge 1 solved in 100 96 59 bytes (according to wc -c) with Haskell. It's basically a one-liner but I need to import something that's not in Prelude. 
We'll see how I want to approach the future ones language-wise. Haskell seemed like an elegant choice for the first one. Or maybe I'll get bored and stop trying because puzzles like this tend to annoy me.
