So, we all know that for games such as Halo 3 and Super Mario Galaxy, writing in ASM would be a nightmare. But it's also true that while C++ is one of the most optimized languages and is portable, it does not deal directly with the processor and therefore cannot run programs as fast as ASM. What do you think, would we possibly have better games if they were written in assembly language? |

The slight speed improvement would quickly be overwhelmed by the added complexity of designing a modern PC game in ASM. It would be a nightmare to use everything from DirectX to thousands of Win32 API calls in x86 ASM. I would say that games would be much worse. |
