For what it's worth, I do that trick with recycling computer PSUs all the time, although I've never purpose-bought a computer PSU specifically for a non-computer purpose. To power the LED lighting and fans in my room, I use a laptop power adapter-shaped brick that used to power a USB=SATA/IDE adapter, and hence provides nice clean 5V and 12V.

I think I'm getting too jaded; not a whole lot impresses me anymore. My new tablet PC has 12 hours of battery life, but only because it has a metric heckton of batteries. Battery technology has been improving at a glacial pace, and if "Who Killed the Electric Car" is to be believed, Big Oil has some responsibility for this. Other than that, everything that makes this laptop better than my older ones just represents incremental improvements, like a somewhat faster processor, a bit more RAM, and so on. I'm both excited and disappointed in the TI-84+CSE: excited that the line continues, and disappointed that it doesn't represent a larger leap forward for the line. The HP Prime impresses me, especially the software side, but the hardware side is not leaps and bounds better than the TI-Nspire, if preliminary rumored specs are to be believed.

So, on line (A), it just defines a variable, STACKSIZE to be 100. This is only visible during assembly, and isn't actually stored on the calculator. Line (B) references another assembler-only variable "stack_ptr" which you can think of as simply being an address. The address, if you looked at that location under a memory debugger, would be a single word (because of the ".dw", "data word"), which in the case contains the address of "start_of_stack." Using the parentheses with an address between them (which "stack_ptr" is), causes the calculator to load a byte or word of memory into another register, in this case HL. After that command is executed, HL contains the value/address of "start_of_stack."

Line (C) uses indirection again, but slightly different. The parentheses load from a memory location if that's what's between them, or if it's a 2 byte register (Such as HL, DE, and a few others) it would load the memory that is contained at the address the register points to. In this case, HL points to "start_of_stack", so line (C) stores the value of register E to "start_of_stack." Don't forget that, when using "LD", the first argument is where to store, and the second is what to store. Line (D) just increments HL by one, causing it to point to "start_of_stack + 1." Lines (E) and (F) should be pretty self-explanatory.

Then on line (G) it uses indirection with an address to save the new value of HL (which points to "start_of_stack + 2" to "stack_ptr." This way, next time you run lines (B) through (G) again, it will be pointing to the next part of the stack and work as expected, so that you don't overwrite old parts of the stack.

Finally, line (H) creates a assembler variable "stack_ptr" which points to a word (I) that initially points to "start_of_stack." And line (J) creates another one and uses a Brass feature to create a large block (size STACKSIZE, or 100, bytes) of memory, all set to an initial value (0x00).

(Also, since I'm pretty sure someone will call me out on it: when using ASM, you don't necessarily "compile" code, you just "assemble" it. Assembling just changes the forms (one using mnemonics, the other using machine language) whereas compiling actually creates new assembly code from your program and doesn't give you full control over what the processor sees.)

The oldest 84+(SE) hardware revisions have 128 KB of RAM, recent revisions have only 48 KB. The 84+CSE has 128 KB.

Does the 84+ have enough RAM pages (128K's worth)? Is the paging hardware the same? Surely some minor modifications would be needed to the ROM code, at the very least, though I could be wrong.

And what about screen size and LCD controller-vs.-memory-mapped interface differences?

Unless you're just asking "can I store an 86 ROM on my 84+?", not "can I store an 86 ROM on my 84+ and actually run it?".

Wall wart 3A 5V power supplies are readily and cheaply available online, though whether they truly supply 3A is another matter entirely (really cheap power supplies from eBay are best avoided). I'd probably trust something more like these LED driver power supplies but I don't really know how well they'd work for you (I assume they output a constant 5V - the specs list "Constant Voltage" rather than constant current).

A laser cutter is a device that uses a laser (usually 20-100 watts or so), has an X-Y table (that is, motors can move something left, right, forward, and back), and the something in question focuses the laser onto the object you're working on.

Then, with a vector drawing (done in Illustrator, Inkscape, or some other vector graphics program), the software translates that drawing into motions of the laser, and the laser can burn/engrave the pattern into the object automatically, or cut some objects, depending on the power level.

In the Dragon Ball Z anime, C-16 is a cyborg created by Dr. Gero for the Red Ribbon Army.

It is damaged in an attempt to protect cyborgs C-17 and C-18 against Cell, and is repaired by Bulma and her father at the Capsule Corporation in order to participate in the tournament organized by Cell.

In episode 168 of Dragon Ball Z, while attempting to repair it Bulma manages to dump some part of the source code of the cyborg C-16 on her computer.
We briefly see two code segments, and we note that this is Basic code, Basic being a very common language in the 70s and 80s which was preinstalled on many 8-bits and 16-bits computers.
