It's an emulator if it emulates hardware. So Wine is not an emulator (hence the name) because it only simulates software, not hardware. Qemu and others like it are full emulators because they emulate a whole system (hardware-wise). If it's something like vmware, it is virtualization without emulation.

Also, if you plan on using OS X and Linux, do not mount your OS X partition as read-write. If you do, you can corrupt the file system to the point where it cannot be repaired and OS X won't boot. This happened to me, but fortunately, I can still get read-only access to the OS X partition (HFS+, journaled).

My other filesystem-related gripe about OS X is that it refuses to install itself to a standard MBR disk. It requires an easily screw-up-able GUID partition table. However, it boots fine from an MBR disk, so I have no clue why it requires a GPT disk.

Fortunately, OS X will support ZFS soon.

Also, the Mac TI-Connect software is better than the windows version (and tilp for OS X kind of sucks), so I would definitely recommend that if you don't already have it. It has a built in program editor, the ability to list and manipulate multiple calcs, even operate on other calcs over a network in a network printing sort of fashion.
Well, the "must-haves" are of course FireFox with ABP and noscript, wine, and if you need a true emulator, look at qemu/Q.

And it is not a cheap BSD, it's an expensive BSD.

Also, if you don't already have or need a router, wifi network, and good backup storage, you might want to check out the time capsule.

Also, if you're thinking of dual or triple booting anything, look at the rEFIt boot menu. If you want to run Linux, and you are running any kind of MacBook, google "elive MacBook". Got 100% compatibility, even works with the motion sensors, webcam, even operates the keyboard backlights on the MBP.
Pressure is really your only hope, as the conducting oxide layer in the ribbon cable is extremely delicate, and the heat to melt the plastic would probably destroy the traces.

@haveacalc: that was the Mainboard<->LCD driver connector, not the LCD driver<->LCD cable.
_________________

Does plastic melt on to glass? My usual way of permanently attaching things melting or solderig them together. I'm thinking if I used a VERY small tip, I could somehow melt the plastic between the wires to the screen, and that would hopefully keep the wires in contact. The other thing I was thinking was to make a long "U" shaped piece of wood or plastic and use some foam or paper to push the cable onto the screen Do either of these have any possibility of working? Since it is still partially attached, there is some hope at least.
Well, if you're really really careful, you can align it just right. That being said, I wasn't able to do it, ryantmer from CalcG wasn't able to do it, and Kerm with a microscope and an x-acto knife (wasn't that what you used?) didn't do it.
_________________

I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but I'm afraid there's really no way to attach that ribbon cable. You'll have to write a program to just use the top two lines of the LCD.
_________________

I was attempting to do a screen mod (removing the polarization filter on the back of the screen so it is only viewable through another polarization filter) on an old TI-86 I bought, but the ribbon cable attached to the right side of the LCD panel is now 80% detached. Is there any way I can reattach a ribbon cable, or am I going to have to write a program that only uses the top two lines of the screen?

(I will get pictures if someone needs to see it)
Writing commands for it is awesomely hot though. Auto-save plus instant use of the command == hawt.
_________________
NEW SITE!

That's because Adobe's being a jerk and won't stop compiling their applications in Carbon. Things will get interesting when Apple comes out with Snow Leopard, which is rumored not to have Carbon support.
_________________

I noticed this pretty neat project that Mozilla Labs are working on, and thought it bore sharing with you guys. It's a bit hard to understand exactly what it does, but in short, it's for making on-the-fly, user-generated mashups. The best way to understand is to check out their explanatory video and install it for yourself (it's an Fx3 plugin).
