I think the silverlink cable works in the same way so it might work, but I'm not an expert.

If you look at a picture of the silverlink, you'll see that it has this bridge thing in between the USB and calc connectors. That makes me think that there's some sort of conversion taking place, and also that only official TI cables would work.

as i explained at the beginning of the thread, i am looking for an alternative, because that cable (your linked one), is rather expensive.

I think that perhaps the only alternative would be to build your own. I couldn't help you with that, but it's cheap. It hooks into your printer port.

EDIT: Also, if you were to do this, you'd need to get TiLP working, which is an art in itself.

i wont be attempting this for two reasons:
1) i have a laptop -> no printer port
2) i tried tilp and it was ridiculously difficult to get working

thanks anyway guys

TILP difficult??? On windows, yeah, but you can boot a linux distro from usb and install tilp without very much trouble...

Unfortunately, none of those direct adapters for the shuffle will work for the calculator. Don't buy one, since you'll waste your money.

The reason is that the calculator's link protocol is not at all USB, and so it needs extra circuitry to communicate with a USB port. The shuffle, on the other hand, has some switch inside that disconnects the audio jack from outputting audio and reconnects it to its own USB chip. A chip that the calculator, as I said, lacks internally. So, a cable that works for one won't work for the other.

Sorry Sad
