Hi guys
I intend to buy a serial link cable for my 84+ because I'm too lazy to study the usb protocol  . Serial is more straightforward imo.
However, TI's site doesn't explicitly say whether the black/grey links are compatible with 84+. I do think they are, but it would be stupid to buy one just to discover that they actually are not compatible...
So, the question is: can I use a black/grey link with a 84+? |

| Well, you can use a black cable with a TI-84 Plus but you cannot use any gray cables for a simple reason: The plug casing is a slightly different shape so it can't plug into the I/O port. However, since you can plug a link cable into a black cable, you can use the newer type of I/O cable designed to fit in a TI-84. |

| Why not just build yourself a serial or parallel link, they are not hard to make and are much cheaper than buying one. |

The BlackLink is cheaper and easier to find than the GrayLink anyway. And if you do want to build it yourself, it's (not so coincidentally) easier to build a BlackLink-compatible cable than a GrayLink-compatible one.
The SilverLink also works fine with the 84+; if you're wondering about how to write software to control it, libticables2 makes it very easy to work with any type of cable on the PC side. |

Well, the reason why I can't make it myself is:
1: I don't have the tools
2: I don't live in the US or Canada so I can't get my parts from radioshack... And electronics stores in my hometown only sell hifi stuff, no f*kin parts or cables (I've been looking around a bit, because TI's cables are indeed a bit expensive...)
EDIT: for some reason, my programs with libticables don't work over usb, but tilp2 does... Strange. (it fails the ticables_library_init(): "Error: cable is busy" or something)
