My previous reaction was to say 2,3,6 because after applying all of the restrictions, I wasn't sure if a 1-year old would have distinguishable red hair yet, which means a 1 year old can't be included. 
But after thinking it over again, I'd say 1,6,6. After the one mathematician was told that the sum of their ages was the current date, he still didn't know what the answer was. 1+6+6 = 13 and 2+2+9 = 13 result in the same dates. Once he learned that the youngest (not plural) had red hair, then 2,2,9 was no longer a possibility. |
