Could the answer be Dermatoglyphics?
If that's not what you're looking for, then is the answer Uncopyrightable? |

really, because I typed uncopyrightable, and it showed it wasn't a word. Otherwise, I would have guessed that. Meh, that's what I get for trusting spell check.... |

Obviously, it depends on what dictionary you choose. There is no official list of English words anywhere. Both of those, however, are perfectly respectable words. "Dermatoglyphics", of course, is the study of fingerprints. "Uncopyrightable" describes something (such as a large, random prime number) that by law is not eligible for copyright.
And they're both in the 'american-english-insane' word list, so there.
According to that list, there are eleven 14-letter words following the same rule:
Schizotrypanum
ambidextrously
benzhydroxamic
dermatoglyphic
hydromagnetics
hydropneumatic
pseudomythical
subformatively
sulphogermanic
troublemakings
undiscoverably
"Hydropneumatics" also seems like a reasonable word to me (20800 hits on Google!) |

I'll take the easy ones:
1.A man was to be sentenced, and the judge told him, "You may make a statement. If it is true, I'll sentence you to four years in prison. If it is false, I'll sentence you to six years in prison." After the man made his statement, the judge decided to let him go free. What did the man say?
I am lying.
2.You have a barrel of oil, and you need to measure out just one gallon. How do you do this if you only have a three-gallon container and a five-gallon container?
Fill the three-gallon container and dump it into the five-gallon. Next, fill the three-gallon again and fill the five-gallon to the brim. There is one gallon left in the three-gallon container.
3.If your sock drawer has 6 black socks, 4 brown socks, 8 white socks, and 2 tan socks, how many socks would you have to pull out in the dark to be sure you had a matching pair?
Five: One black, one brown, one white, one tan, and one of any of the four colors.
4.How did Mark legally marry three women in Michigan, without divorcing any of them, becoming legally separated, or any of them dying?
Mark's a minister.
5.Mom and Dad have four daughters, and each daughter has one brother. How many people are in the family?
Seven: Mom, Dad, the four daughters, and the one brother.
|

1. The man said, "I will be sentenced to 6 years in prison."
2. You fill up the 3 gallon, pour it into the 5, then fill up the 3 and pour into the 5 until it's full. Then what's left in the 3 is 1-gallon.
3. Just 5.
4. He's a pastor.
5. 7: Mom, Dad, 4 sisters, 1 brother.
6. I have solved this before, and it is a famous problem, but in the interest of keeping this topic alive, if even for just one more post, I won't solve it here.
Edit: Dang! Beaten to the punch!

1. You will sentence me to prison.
2. You get 3 gallons in the 3 gallon container. You pour that into the 5 gallon one. You refill the 3 gallon one, and you fill the remaining 2 gallons in the 5 gallon container, leaving 1 gallon in the 3 gallon container.
3-4 Don't care to think about it.
5. 7 to 10 Most likely 7, but it really is a trick question.
6. I figured it out before, but don't really want to do it again. |
