I have McAfee Protection SecurityCenter 2008 on my Computer and it has detected multiple (I mean about 500-700) attempts at accessing various ports on my computer. The Source IP is like this though fe80::fdd2:4B8c:d70c:af57. I can't trace it though. Any Ideas on how to trace/decode it?

It's an IPv6 address. I'm not sure how you do a WHOIS on that. I'd say just block it and forget about it; that's what your firewall is for anyway.

Not to hijack things here, but are some good firewalls for XP? I just switched to a static IP and can't say I'm not a little wary.

Routers, and Gateways are useful for these kinds of things because their built in firewalls are a lot better than any firewall you can install on your computer and they are a lot cheaper in the long run too. And of course they make it easy to set up a home network.

I just use my router's NAT, and punch a couple holes with port mapping for some games and the 3 network daemons on my server that I want outside access too.

Ah, hackers are always a nasty foe.

My solution:

Fight fire with fire and hack back

Congratulations. You can breath free.

But I think fire is more cool than firewall in great scale attacks. Just a ingenious war adept talking... Very Happy

How about removing support for IPv6. Serriously, your computer does not need it, so why do you have it installed?

If you have Widnows Vista, well... you cannot remove it...

Personally, I think Microsoft was brilliant marketing wise. I use Windows, but over the years I've come to despise Microsoft. Because of how their business is run. It's almost as though they expect the world to adjust to fit them, instead of them adjusting to fit the world.
